In Tunica, the summers are long, hot, and muggy; the winters are chilly, wet, and windy; and it is partly cloudy year round. Tunica has a humid climate which goes through four seasons with the most uncomfortable weather being the summer heat. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 34°F to 91°F and is rarely below 20°F or above 97°F.
- Summer is very hot with temperatures averaging in the 80s but often climbing above and beyond into the 90s and up with a very humid atmosphere that can be a little tiring.
- Winters are very mild in Tunica with an average temperature in the 50s.
- Fall and summer are very comfortable seasons with temperatures in the ideal 70s.
Those affected by the humidity will enjoy Tunica the most in the springtime. April and May are perfect times to visit Tunica. In fact the spring is the tourist high season as it has the best climate of the year. Flowers come very early and the humidity has not yet hit in full force; Light clothing, sunscreen, sunglasses and hats are highly recommended no matter what time of year you visit.
Some great times to visit the city include arriving for the Tunica Rivergate Barbecue Festival which is a branch of the world-famous barbecue in Memphis. This festival takes place in May and will provide you with some of the tastiest treats from the South.
The first weekend in October brings the Gospel Music Festival. This is also a great time to visit to get some local culture. The music performances are enhanced by more Southern cooking and games.
