Basic Massage Therapy Supplies

It's easy to understand why massage therapy supplies are so important for a spa to have. Besides a facial, a massage is usually the most popular treatment that a spa has to offer. In fact, some people come to a spa for no other reason than to enjoy a professional massage. Of course, massage therapy supplies are even more important to a clinic, and one that  specializes in massage therapy needs to have a wider range of them. We're going to take a closer look at what the most essential supplies are, and you can explore each category further in the future should you choose to do so.

The most essential piece of massage therapy equipment is a high quality table. Without a proper table, you will not be offering you clients the benefits of massage touted by virtually every medical resource in the world. There are basically three different kinds of massage tables. Some are stationary, some are portable, and some are what you call “electric lift” tables. With an electric lift table, you can raise your client up or down to the ideal level in relation to your own height. Of course, with a portable table, you have the advantage of being able to take your clinic to your clients.

Sets of sheets are also essential. You need to have fresh linens for every client. Ideally, you aren't going to have time to wash them between each pair of clients, because you'll be so busy. Therefore, it's a good idea to have several sets of sheets on hand. Flannel is a very popular type of material for massage therapy sheets, because it strikes a good balance between comfort and durability. Comfort is very important because, after all, comfort is the whole goal of many or your clients in getting a massage in the first place. Massage sheet sets usually also come with face rest covers.

It's also important to have plenty of lubricant available. When your massage techniques call for low friction and high glide, oil is your best bet. When you'd like to stay near the middle of the road for both glide and friction, cream works really well. For high friction and low guide, there are various types of lotion. Cream is the most popular massage lubricant these days, primarily because it's suitable for the widest variety of purposes. Of course, your client's preferences should also be considered.
